Q1 How to identify unused elements with SysML diagrams, often referred to as 'orphaned' elements in EA?

Answer

An orphaned element is one that doesn't appear in any diagram within the model. An effective way to find these elements is by using the built-in search functionality in Enterprise Architect. To locate orphaned elements, you can follow these steps:
  1. Open the Model Search by pressing Ctrl+Alt+A.
  2. From the Pull-Down Menus, navigate to Diagram Searches.
  3. Choose the option to Find Orphans. You can also refer to this link for more information.

If you decide to remove these orphaned elements, you can do so by selecting all the results (Ctrl+A) and then deleting them (Ctrl+Del). It's important to exercise caution when doing this, as there's nothing inherently wrong with having elements in the model that aren't part of any diagram. If you choose to delete all the elements flagged as orphans, it could potentially cause significant disruptions to your model. Please be aware that performing these actions carries a risk. Important Note: It's recommended to create a backup of your project before proceeding with any of the methods mentioned.
